Description
Hello, my name is Vanessa.
For the last 22 years I have been dedicated to supporting vulnerable adults, children and young people combining counselling, coaching, hypnotherapy, EMDR and CBT qualifications and knowledge. I am also a registered Supervisor.
I aim to provide a non-judgemental, confidential, and safe space for anyone wanting to understand their behaviours and/or feelings and explore the possibilities of making changes for the better.
Coming into the ADHD world over 21 years ago when my children were diagnosed with ADHD, I devoured all the information and support I could access to support them. It was no surprise to my family and friends that latterly I was diagnosed with combined presentation ADHD.
Like many people receiving a diagnosis slightly later in life, I had struggled in so many areas of life affected by my neuro diversity and suddenly everything began to make more sense! The diagnosis really helped to understand that I wasn’t lazy, crazy or stupid – just a little unique in my approach to the world! Many people with ADHD know that the daily business of living life is rarely a walk in the park. Many areas that neuro typical minds handle naturally can be hard for an ADHDer and at times, extremely challenging!
This ADHD journey has influenced my ethos of understanding and identification of the strengths that each ADHDer has, with the aim of developing the helpful systems and support strategies that maximise the rewards and minimise the challenges of being neuro diverse.
It has been many years now of providing support in the specialist area of ADHD, working out the tailored solutions with my clients to help them make the very best of themselves thrive in life. ADHD is so unique that one size of counselling, therapy or coaching definitely does not fit all! Being creative and flexible in approach and working collaboratively with every client is key to successfully understanding and learning to navigate life with ADHD.
I have trained in and understand the ADHD diagnosis process, partner with one of the UK’s most significant national private ADHD assessment organisations and engage in continued professional development training regularly which means you can be assured my knowledge is up to date and relevant. A full Enhanced DBS Certificate is held.
My full time private practice is based Reading, Berkshire providing services in person and remotely and am a registered Supervisor for other therapists. I provide services face to face (for those in the locality) and online. I have worked within both state and private education with children and young people, and am an independent service provider for the Complex Trauma Team within one of the NHS ICB’s supporting vulnerable clients with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder amongst other mental health conditions.
